The i2010 strategy: A European Information Society for growth and employment was initiated by the European Commission in 2005. SISE, the Single Information Space in Europe, was declared one of its objectives. SISE has been first mentioned in the FP7 objective "ICT-2007.6.3: ICT for Environmental Management and Energy Efficiency". The Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) is a proposal by the European Commission which should enable citizens to be informed about environmental matters and to actively participate in environmental decision making process. It has the goal to support national, regional, NGO and voluntary initiatives to improve the accessability to environmental information. Both, SISE and SEIS, target a single pan-European information space and shared environmental services and infrastructures which enable seamless integration of existing resources and provision to environmental actors.
